Fitness and Fun don’t usually
go together, but that is our goal, that is what we do
best. UFK is dedicated to providing you with
a high level of customer service and a workout that is
not only fun, but challenging physically, mentally, and
is evolving as you are.
UFK Goals
UFK understands that people require change in there
workout routine. Losing weight, toning up, and
increasing your overall fitness level while having fun
is our goal. Running on a treadmill for five hours
a week is not our idea of a fun cardio workout.
Boring is a better word for it. Kickboxing
involves an endless amount of combinations keeping you
on your toes. Applying the idea of circuit
training to the class utilizing kickboxing, ply metrics,
and calisthenics, takes you the next level.
UFK provides a workout that is for everyone! We
understand that everyone is different so keeping this in
mind the class is designed for you to move at your own
pace. As you keep coming to class you will find
that your fitness level will increase in a short amount
of time. This will allow you to be able to do
things you could not do the first time you attended
class. This is our main goal, to increase your
overall level of fitness.
Our facility provides a workout environment like no
other. Surrounded by graffiti the gym has the
urban tough guy appearance. This makes it fun and
will motivate you like never before during workouts.
Music is also a major part of our workouts. As you
know music is a motivator. We play a very, very
wide selection of music ranging from Rock to Metal to
Hip Hop. This also helps the class fly by!

Before
After
Monday, June 22, 2009 was a day that has
changed my life. This was the day that I called
John Trent at Urban Fitness Kickboxing and asked
him to help me to lose weight.
Let’s look back a few months to see why this
call was so significant. I have been heavy the
majority of my life. I have tried every diet and
so-called diet that has come along to try and
lose weight. I would lose weight and get down to
the point where I was feeling somewhat good
about myself and then some event would happen
and I would start shoveling the food again. Food
was my escape from everything. I ate when I was
happy, sad, mad, stressed, or bored. Food
controlled my life. As a teacher, the last few
months of school are stressful. I started eating
out of control and ended up gaining 20 pounds in
two months. My blood pressure was climbing
daily, I started having breathing problems, and
I was going to the doctor regularly with varying
aliments. I was miserable and of course I ate.
On June 22, I was sitting in my car trying to
decide which fast food place I was going to go
to first, when I decided enough was enough. I
pulled over in front of a sign for Urban Fitness
Kickboxing. I called and spoke with John and
asked for his help. He told me to come in and
give the class a try. So I showed up at 4:30
that day ready to make a change. At this point,
I was the heaviest that I had ever been in my
life. I weighed in at 231 pounds and had a BMI
of 44.7%. The first class was hard. I was so out
of shape that even the easiest activity was
difficult for me to complete. I was sure that I
could never do these classes. At the end of
class, I was pretty down. Then John and several
class members came up and were encouraging to
me. The next day, I showed up for 10:00 class
and it was a little easier. I signed up at the
end of that class and made the commitment to
change my life. John helped me to find a diet
that finally worked, high protein/low
carbohydrate, and I started doing class 4-5
times a weekJoining this class has helped me
change many things in my life. I now know how to
eat and feel good about what I eat. I have found
an excellent workout program that helps me deal
with stress without eating, and my self-esteem
has improved. I have also lost 33 pounds in 2 ˝
months. My BMI is currently 38.3%. I have about
30 to 40 more pounds to go until I reach my
goal, but I have the confidence and support
system that I need in order to accomplish it. I
credit John Trent and the program at UFK with
saving my life. If I had not started classes
when I did, I would have continued eating and
not exercising. If I had not sought help, my
health would have continued to deteriorate and
my quality of life would have continued to be
poor. I will always be grateful to John and I
look forward to achieving all of the health
goals that I have set for myself with his help.
